Burns Corridor Network

Postby Aulyin2 » "Tue Jan 19, 2010 12:34 pm"

How much more would businesses in Dumfriesshire and Ayrshire have made in 2009 if they had worked together?
If all of the places with a connection with Robert Burns, from Gretna to Largs had formed a network, would it have made a difference?
A 30 mile wide corridor, where he was born, grew up and died, filled with numerous iconic figures who changed the world, surely it would have attracted visitors.
How many places can you think of within this corridor which are worth a visit?
How much greater effect if the name of Glasgow Prestwick, Ayrshire, was renamed "The Robert Burns International Airport, Prestwick"? [Google]

I must admit I do fancy having the AYRSHIRE airport named after the Ayrshire/Dumfriesshire poet. Yes I do believe more would be achieved if both shires worked together forming a Robert Burns Network.

What have we got to lose?
We've got so much to offer, but who's going to come to a shire to see a hoose? or a museum? or a ferm? or a mausoleum? or a statue? or a howff? Put them all together though, now that's different. A whole corridor filled with the life of Robert Burns and 50 odd other iconic figures. http://burnscorridor.proboards.com/inde ... &thread=12

The Burns Corridor Network would work as a Network, not concentrating on the honey pot but all of the poor bees hovering in the shadows. We need to let people know what there is to offer nearby; promote each other and ourselves; create a sustainable tourism industry, because we've got what it takes.
